Phantom Edges

Phantom Edges: two slots drawing on one Remnant Spark pool, what breaks shields, what opens map routes, and the ten entries still listed as placeholders.

Soul faces two golden-armoured fighters inside a roped temple hall.

Phantom Edges are the game’s second weapon class, and they are not a backup primary weapon. They spend their own resource, they double as exploration tools, and the official store copy puts the catalog at more than 20 unique edges. Two of them travel with you at any time.

What an edge is

An edge sits in one of two slots and swaps whenever you want. Three properties make it different from a blade:

  • It runs on Remnant Sparks, not Sha-Chi. Sparks come from kills, at a chance, so the pool refills slowly and unpredictably.
  • Cost varies per edge. Some are cheap pokes, some are the most expensive input in your kit.
  • It doubles as a key. Edges open paths, break boards, and interact with scenery that a sword cannot touch.
On this page 7

That third property is why the loadout question is never “which edge does the most damage”. It is “which two jobs do I need covered in the next ten minutes”.

The spark economy

  1. Sparks drop from kills at a chance, so treat each charge as a resource you earned in this fight, not a resource you own.
  2. Each edge lists its own cost. Two expensive edges in the same loadout starve each other in long fights.
  3. Spend on problems, not on damage. A shield that bounces your blade is a problem. A mob that is already dying is not.
  4. Refill on trash, spend on elites. Clearing a room before a boss gate is the cheapest way to walk in with a full pool.

Four jobs, and how to spot which one you need

JobWhat it solvesHow you notice you need it
Shield breakHeavy shields that stop your primary weaponYour hits bounce and the guard does not move
CounterEnemies that shrug off normal pressureA specific enemy type eats combos and answers with a throw
Combo or chase extenderReaching a target that is out of blade rangeGuard breaks that end before you arrive
Field toolPaths, boards, water, mechanismsA route that reads closed but is not

Most players carry two shield-breakers and then meet a door. One problem-solver plus one field tool covers more of the game than two of the same job.

The catalog so far

The confirmed list runs past 20 entries. These are the ones with enough information to plan around, sorted by the job they do.

EdgeClassJob
Juxiong FuGreat axeShield break, heavy swing
Changbing JinguaiLong-handled maceShield break, ground shockwave
TiequantaoGauntletsClose-range pressure

XuediziFlying guillotineRanged decapitation tool

LingdangBellField tool, travel node

The page also lists a further group of edges whose names are unconfirmed, which is the honest state of the catalog: ten entries exist as placeholders, not as data. We are not filling them with guesses.

Two to test first

Lingdang (the bell). First touch clears the fog on your minimap around it, restores combat resources, and becomes a travel node. Bells connect to each other, and a separate travel item lets you return from anywhere. This is the edge that turns a long corpse run into a short one.

Changbing Jinguai (the long mace). Hold the Phantom Edge input to swing it overhead and finish with a ground slam that hits an area. Press it in the air to slam down from a jump. It also breaks boarded floors that seal a path, and it does that while unequipped, which makes it the cheapest permanent key in the game. Its stated role is heavy break against shielded enemies, and it drops from Ju Chui Ke Wanjun.

What the page does not say

No spark cost per edge, no damage values, no counter matrix, and no complete acquisition list. Two consequences for planning:

  • Do not build a rotation around an edge’s cost. You cannot compare costs that are not published.
  • Assume the counter table is real but undocumented. Test each edge on a shielded enemy and on one elite, then write the result down.

FAQ

Do edges replace a primary weapon? No. They share neither the resource nor the upgrade path, and their damage window is short. They cover jobs a blade cannot.

Should both slots be combat edges? Only inside a boss arena. Everywhere else, one combat edge and one field tool saves backtracking.

Can I switch edges mid-fight? Yes, both slots are swappable at any time. The cost is the spark you already spent, not a cooldown.
