Humanoid Trash

Humanoid enemy types: the 32-entry Mob Compendium, the 30 rows it actually shows, and the answer to each class from shield-bearers to mounted riders at range.

Last checked 23 Oct 2026
Soul leaps above a club-swinging brute in a rain-soaked stone yard.

The Mob Compendium says 32 confirmed enemy types and admits that a chunk of them are reskins. That admission is the most useful line on the page: it means the threat you face is defined by the weapon in the enemy’s hand, not by the name over its head.

The count, and the gap inside it

The numbers do not close, and pretending they do would be worse than saying so.

SourceWhat it countsRows listed
Mob Compendium32 confirmed types22 melee + 4 ranged + 4 special = 30 rows, plus 3 pending
Human-form pageHuman-shaped enemies only19 melee + 4 ranged + 6 special
DifferenceAnimalsThe 3 extra melee rows (crow, dog, water creature) are animals, not humanoids

So: 19 human melee plus the 4 ranged plus 4 special gives 27 human-shaped types, the animal file adds 3, and the stated total of 32 leaves 2 entries the tables do not show. We list what is listed and leave the last two open.

Read the loadout, not the name

Six reads cover almost everything you will meet.

What you seeExamplesAnswer
Shield plus a weaponWhite spear shield, white club shield, straw-hat sword-and-shieldBreak the shield or go around it. A Phantom Edge with a shield-break role ends this in one input
Long polearmSpearman, masked spearmanStep inside the point. Polearms lose at zero range
Twin weaponsTwin-hook soldier, double-headed blade soldierParry the first swing, dodge the second. Do not block the whole string
MountedMounted spearman, mounted straw-hat archerFight the horse’s turn radius, not the rider. Circle and punish the pass
Big bodyBig Head, female Big HeadTwo-handed pressure, wide arcs. Their recovery is your window
Plain fodderRighteous sect disciple, blue-robe disciple, hooded bladeIgnore in a crowd; execute from behind when the room is quiet

The mask family is one enemy in four costumes

Four entries are the same silhouette with a different weapon: club mask, spear mask, bare-hand mask, blade mask. Treat them as one archetype with a variable attack range, because that is what they are.

  • Club mask: slow, wide, most punishable.
  • Spear mask: reach, so close the distance instead of circling.
  • Bare-hand mask: fastest recovery, which means fewer safe windows.
  • Blade mask: the middle case, and the one you will fight most often.
On this page 8

Once you stop treating them as four enemies, four fights collapse into one read.

Ranged: four types, one problem

TypeWhat it doesAnswer
Firearm soldierShoots from rangeBreak line of sight, then close in one burst
Crossbow soldierShoots from rangeSame, but expect a faster second shot
ArcherShoots from rangeWatch for the draw animation; close between shots
Fire throwerThrows fire in an arcKeep moving laterally; the arc does not track well

Every ranged enemy in this game is a repositioning problem disguised as a damage problem. Kill order matters more than damage: the archer behind the spearman is the real threat.

Special: four types that break the rules

  1. Suicide soldier. Explodes at close range. Do not execute it, and do not stand in its path when it commits.
  2. Strange doctor. Support type, behavior undocumented. Prioritize it and remove the unknown.
  3. Straw-hat cloaked. Behavior undocumented. Treat as a duelist until proven otherwise.
  4. Small lion-dancer. Fast, erratic, possibly not humanoid at all. Fight it in the open.

Two of these four have no published behavior. Marking them as unknown is more useful than assigning them a pattern we have not seen.

Execution: the cheapest clear in the game

mobs are the only enemies you can delete without a fight.

  1. Crouch behind a mob and execute. Full invincibility during the animation.
  2. Two mobs standing close together can be executed as a chain: one input, two bodies.
  3. Drop onto a mob from above while out of combat to trigger the same execution.
  4. Any mob at low health can be executed, which turns a long fight into a two-second finish.

Because executions are invincible, the play is to open with them rather than end with them. Clear the perimeter, then fight the center.

Pending entries

Three enemies sit in an unconfirmed table: the rolling dual-blade fat man, the water polearm, and the red-laser enemy. All three turn up in boss discussions too. We list them once, here, and will not double-count them as both trash and boss until a source says which they are.

FAQ

Are there 32 types? The compendium states 32. Its tables show 30, plus 3 pending. The honest answer is 30 listed, 32 claimed, 3 uncertain.

Do reskins hit differently? A reskin with a different weapon hits differently. A reskin with the same weapon is cosmetic. The mask family proves the point in both directions.

Which one kills new players most? The twin-weapon soldiers. Their second swing arrives before a full block string ends, and blocking it costs the whole bar.

Can I skip trash entirely? Often, yes. Executions and stealth let you clear a room without a stand-up fight, and the mobs drop nothing you cannot get elsewhere.
